Dates have an excellent nutrition profile. Since they’re dried, their calorie content is higher than most fresh fruit. The calorie content of dates is similar to that of other dried fruits, such as raisins and figs (1). Most of the calories in dates come from carbs. The rest are from a very small amount of protein. Despite their calories, dates contain some important vitamins and minerals in addition to a significant amount of fiber, as previously noted. Why are dates a concerns?
Dates pack a lot of sweetness in a relatively small bite. They’re a natural source of fructose, the type of sugar found in fruit.
Each dried, pitted date (about 24 grams) contains 67 calories and roughly 18 grams of carbs (1Trusted Source).
Blood sugar levels can be challenging to manage among people with diabetes, and those with the condition are typically advised to be conscious of their carb intake.
Given their high carb content, dates may raise concerns.
However, when eaten in moderation, dates can be part of a healthy diet if you have diabetes (2Trusted Source, 3Trusted Source).
