Drinking tart cherry juice every day can help boost brain health and improve cognitive abilities among older adults, according to a team of scientists from the University of Delaware (UD).
Published in the Food & Function journal, their findings demonstrated that the consumption of Montmorency tart cherry juice every day for three months leads to better memory, spatial memory and focus among older adults.
These findings also suggest that Montmorency tart cherry juice can help protect the brain from age-related degeneration and neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia in later life, as previously noted. They hope to conduct more studies in the future to determine exactly how much tart cherries juice is needed to maximize these benefits, so that they can recommend a specific dose to athletes.
